“An output that I am consistently looking for is the transfer of my coaching skills to my client. This is an output that I feel proud of and find deeply fulfilling. I achieve this by revealing and being explicit with regards to my processes and methods.”

My coaching model is CLEARER:

  • Contracting
  • Listening
  • Exploring
  • Actioning
  • Reflecting
  • Evaluating
  • Reviewing

In turn I believe I'm contributing to the Spiral Dynamics - a never ending quest for meaning in this life

Thulani has been my coach on and off for a period of three years. During the gap periods when he wasn't coaching me, I really missed the difference he made as a valuable sounding board and "reality checker".

Thulani is a good listener and is spot on with his insights. Because he has a holistic approach to life, he has been able to bring a variety of perspectives to the challenges I face. He provides really useful feedback and is very supportive. And a bonus is that he has a great sense of humour.

Dr Hilgarde Fast

I had no idea what coaching was until I was assigned a coach – Mr Gromick Thulani Ndlovu – as part of the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business Emerging Leaders Programme in 2006. But what an invaluable experience it turned out to be!

The coaching exercise lasted a year, during which one monthly session of one-hour each in length was held with Gromick. During the course of the year we discussed issues that were both professional and personal, because it was quite clear that in my case they influenced each other.

While I was aware of some of my limitations and needs in both areas, it was through the coaching sessions that I was able to identify other limitations and needs, and find the ways of overcoming my limitations and cater to my own specific needs in both the professional and personal areas.

I conclude by pointing out that the experience not only taught me that coaching is a necessity for all senior managers and leaders (indeed, for any person), but also that in Gromick I was fortunate to have a coach – with the appropriate personality, experience and advice – that could assist me in making tremendous strides in growth as a person.

Indeed, at our final session with Gromick I indicated that I still need further coaching with him beyond the 12 month period provided for in the Emerging Leaders Programme, and am working on making this a reality.
